The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bangalore has sentenced Commander K. Harikumar, the then Logistic Officer and Shri K. Ventakesh Prasad, then UDC, both working in Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) in Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO), Bangalore to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.35,000/- each.
CBI had registered a case against M/s South End Technology, Bangalore and other unknown private persons & other unknown public servants on a complaint received from Customs (P&V), Chennai alleging evasion of Customs duty by fraudulently declaring that the imported items were meant for government use. During the investigation, it was found that a fake contract procurement agreement under a fake project was prepared for Rs.45 crore for the supply of items under the fake project Development of a Proto Type Data link, Limited Phase-II Test and Integration Facility.
After investigation, chargesheet was filed before the Designated Court at Bangalore against the accused including proprietor of said private firm based at Bangalore. During trial, Proprietor of said private firm died.
The Trial Court found the said accused guilty and convicted them.
